The visiting of Professor Baoshan Xing from University of Massachusetts, Amherst, USA

Professor Baoshan Xing, Full Professor of Environmental & Soil Chemistry at Stockbridge Scholl of Agriculture/College of Natural Sciences, University of Massachusetts, Amherst, USA, was invited by Professor Xiaozeng Han, Research Leader of Pedological Mass Cycle Group on June 21-25th.

Professor Baoshan Xing is one of the “Most Cited Scientists” in both 2014 & 2015 recognized by the Thomson Reuters for “the best and brightest scientific minds of our time”. His research work is ranked in the top 0.1% of cited authors for journals in environmental sciences and ecology with h-index currently at 66 and a total citation exceeding 17,500. Professor Xing is a technical editor of Journal of Environmental Quality, Associate Editor of Environmental Pollution, and an editorial board member of Environmental Science & Technology, Chemosphere, International Journal of Phytoremediation, Soils, Nanomaterials, and Pedosphere. Professor Xing received numerous awards/honors, including the ACSPSNA distinguished career award in 2012, University exceptional merit award in 2012 and 2015, Kingenta Agricultural Science Award in 2013, Marion L. and Chrystie M. Jackson Soil Science Award in 2014, the University Award for Outstanding Accomplishments in Research and Creative Activity in 2015, and Environmental Quality Research Awards in 2016. Professor Xing is Fellow of both SSSA and Agronomy Society of America (ASA). His research program is recognized internationally.

Professor Xing provided many helpful suggestions to young research scientists on how to improve their experiment and writing ability. Professor Xing and young research scientist spent three days completing the first draft: Land-use changes affect the redistribution of soil organic carbon fractions from subsoil in Mollisol of Northeast of China. 

Professor Xing was accompanied by Professor Han to visit Hailun station, Professor Han gave a very detailed introduction about long-time experiments in the stations, which make Professor Xing feel impressed about black soil and associated experiments, and give a highly praised on the systematic and integrity of long-time experiments.

Professor Han and Professor Xing reached an agreement of intent to establish a long term cooperation relationship. The visiting of Professor Xing definitely played a positive key role in further sustainable development and fertility improvement for black soil.
